Boogie Moves to the Bayou

All Star big man DeMarcus Cousins is on the move just days before the NBA trade deadline arrives. The Sacramento Kings agreed to a deal with the New Orleans Pelicans that sent Cousins and Omri Casspi to the Pelicans in exchange for Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, Langston Galloway and it’s 2017 first and second round draft picks.

This news came just moments after the NBA All Star game, when personnel notified Cousins that he had been traded just before speaking to the press. This blockbuster deal comes just days before the trade deadline, which is Thursday February 23rd at 3 pm.

This is without a doubt the biggest deal of the season. Just earlier in the week, Cousins spoke with reporters and shared that he wanted to finish his career in Sacramento.

Cousins’ time in Sacramento was surrounded with controversy. He was the franchise player, but they could never get him a sidekick. Sacramento constantly struggled with being a top team and it seemed like the management was always making strange moves. Not to mention that Cousins is leading the league in technical fouls this year with 17.

However, this fresh start could be exactly what Boogie needed. New Orleans is right on the border of being a playoff team and already has a star player. Cousins’ is also being reunited with former college teammate Anthony Davis. The Pelicans easily have the best frontcourt in the league with the number one and two big men. It may take some time for the two to mesh, but once it is figured out, they will be a force to be reckoned with.

This move has the Western Conference a little concerned. Some of the top teams don’t have the size and won’t be able to match up well with the Pelicans down low. Watch out for the Pelicans in the playoffs, they are going to give teams fits.
